Sick hen

today we noticed that one of our hens wasn't eating or drinking much. when we picked her up we also noticed that her crop was empty. She is continually doing his strange gaspng thing and looks like she is staining to poo. We thought that she may have been constipated but we checked and there is no poo inside her cloaca. however we did discover an irregular shaped hard lump on the inside of her cloaca. she seems to be in pain and when she strains blood dribbles out of her rectum as well as small amounts of watery green poo. Could this lump be a tumour or could it be something else? If she is constipated or egg bound is it possible that we couldn't feel the poo even though my finger was in her cloaca up to the middle knuckle?

:welcome

It sounds like she is egg-bound. Here are some helpful links on what to do : http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2012/07/chicken-egg-binding-causes-symptoms.html

Welcome to BYC. How is your hen doing at this point? She may have some sort of blockage in her digestive tract, or something like a tumor. If a vet is possible, I would take her in for an Xray. Egg binding can be up high, and it is possible to have a large "pus egg" that could be blocking her reproductive tract from salpingitis. So many things can affect chickens, and many times we can't figure them out until we do a necropsy after death. Please update us on how she is doing.
