Hi new member here! Kathy is the name and hobby farming is the game. I have fifteen chickens, three horses, two sheep, two dogs, and the queen of the castle my fat happy tabby cat. I will also be venturing into goats here soon (most likely next spring). In addition to the animals I have one little girl who I live alone with and love dearly. Her daddy passed away about a year ago so this little farm is our new beginning in NE Colorado (where I grew up).

Now that I've introduced myself allow me to expand on my animals! The chickens are Jersey Giants 14 of them to be exact with one odd ball in the mix (oddball runs the roost). I purchased them from McMurray Hatchery this last spring and I am still very pleased with both my chickens and the hatchery! Technically this is my first time raising chickens on my own. Growing up on the family farm we had chickens, but my mother was the brains behind their care.

As for the horses the first and for most is Tank aka Trip: A 17 year old 16hh quarter horse gelding and kid packing wonder. Trip is a retired ranch horse who came to me with no trust for people and a hatred of pets and scratches. Months later he snoozes through pets and brushing and is quite attached to my two sheep Patrick the wether and Jane the ewe. Second is Pumpkin my 14hh quarter horse mare. Pumpkin is easy going and laid-back but she still has a kink in her tail and a little bit of pep in her step. Third is little Peanut my mixed breed pony. Peanut is a typical pony full of piss n vinegar and packed with enough spunk for five horses. The dogs of which I have two are both females. Sophie the audacious corgi and Dixie the friendliest GSD a person will ever meet. The dogs like all my animals are family to me and share the house with my daughter and I plus The Queen Miss Pickles the pleasantly plump tabby cat. Oh and I almost forgot the Unsinkable Molly Brown the little black bunny who my mom insists upon calling Captain Black Ears.

Well that's us. I look forward to interacting with everyone here on BYC!

Hi Kathy and a very warm welcome to BYC! There's a lot of info on in the Learning Centre, but fire away with any questions you have and don't feel shy when sharing your own experiences with other members.
