Hi,

I am not familiar with the breed, but looking at the comb development and colourful feathering i would guess at a Roo (not sure how old it is). Its certainly far from a science at this age, but maybe other more experienced members could help more.

Roosters can be calm / gentle or total nut cases but a lot can depend on how you interact with them. If you don't need a roo for breeding then i would suggest not keeping one.

Cheers

Thanks everyone, the chick was born on 21/8 so 5 weeks old now. Yeh I'm thinking roo as well but I will waiting until the chick gets a bit older. The breeder I purchased the chicks from has a Rooster Return policy so if it's a roo I will take him back. Shame for I interact with my chicks a lot....have to wait and see :)

Yours is pure. :) Here are some pictures of the difference in genders of Wheaten Marans off the internet. If yours is a Marans also, it isn't French, it is English because it doesn't appear to have feathered legs.
