not worried about her, more of wanting to know why.

now for the story. She's 8 months old.  About a month ago i noticed that she over indulged in something she ate to the point that her breast was dragging the ground poor thing couldn't hardly walk lol.

but the next morning she's all normal and bright eyed and bushy tailed read for the days hunt. well i didn't get a egg from her that morning, didn't worry about it cause of the past day's problem but the next day still no egg now I'm wondering maybe she ate something she shouldn't have and it hurt her. Well day 3 came and still nothing, but shes acting normal poop looks normal.

not really worried about her what happens, happens. so i put them up for the night look around in the coop and there are 2 piles of what looks like eggs that has been mixed up.

i picked it all up and found the membranes and what was left of some yolk. so next morning theres a egg with and nice white powder coating on it. but looks normal cracked it open and all that looks normal. from a month ago till 2 days ago she has given me a powder coated egg or and double yolk since then until 2 days ago, she hasn't gave me an egg but have found the yolk and whites in a nest box and this morning in the back corner of the coop. but shes all bright eyed as always.

I'm just figuring she hurt something with egg making so i may have this problem from time to time and that's fine, if it was me i would have her for a stew. but shes my daughters and wife's favorite as she has the biggest personalty of all i have.

So any idea's?

When you found the eggs was it broken so you saw the yolk and membrane or was there no shell?

No shell at all.

No shell on an egg of an 8 month old chicken is nothing to worry about. An 18 month old chicken laying more than one or two such eggs hower is cause for worry.

yeah im not worried, was just curious if anybody knew why this is happening. she gave me a very very light brown egg.

but I've noticed that her feathers have lightened up a lot the past couple of days

When a brown egg laying hen nears her yearly laying limit her eggshells become progressively lighter. Her internal supply of pigments are exhausted and she will need to lay in another store of brown pigments before she lays again.

It may be educational if you'll snap a good close up of her head now and compare it to a close up of her head when she resumes laying.

Light or DULL dry feathers is a sure indication that she is preparing to drop her feathers.
