I have 4 girls that were all hatched on St.Patty's Day - the one with the eye lesion is Gertrude. She is a silver laced wing Wyandotte and is otherwise a happy, healthy girl. I noticed the lesion today. Its seems to be more up towards her comb but I'm a new to chickens and not quite sure what to do. I'm trying to catch her to get a good pick of it right now to post.

Welcome to BYC. A picture would really help to try to distinguish it from a cyst, a respiratory infection, peck wound, or pox. In case your picture doesn't come through at first keep posting, because sometimes you have to have several posts before being allowed to insert pics. Is your hen having any respiratory symptoms, such as sneezing, noisy breathing, eye drainage, or nasal secretions? Can you see any marks that could be from pecking or a sting?
Gert has no respiratory symptoms or indications of any pecking, fighting or stings. She is totally normal acting and I noticed it today because I spend a great deal of time with them - they are as social as my dogs! She was sitting on her roost beside me and I could see it well, until of course I wanted a pic, then she bolted! It doesn't appear to be bothering her or affecting her eye in any way.
I'm new to chickens so what would I need to look for in regards to pox?
Well, pox can look like a tan or brown scab, and sometimes they can be swollen if there is pus inside. Tumors and cysts can be common in chickens, but some respiratory diseases (MG or mycoplasma) can start out with swelling of the face or around an eye. Your picture may help or not. Here is what pox looks like (there can be single or multiple scabs):
It does look like she has been pecked around the eye,the comb, face, and wattles from the black, or she may have pox. That swollen lesion over her eye could be pox, but it looks a lot like a small cyst similar to that one of my roosters has. His is hard, and has not changed in size. Tough Gert's to see if it is hard or soft.
I can tell you I'm not high on her list today - I just washed her entire head and really gave it a look over ... all of the dark spots were dirt and came right off. I don't see anything unusual on her comb, etc. The mass is very soft and tender when I touched it - she gave me a nice peck to let me know! What should I do now?
Thank you for all of your help!
