It's been cloudy and rainy for almost 2 weeks, and now we're going to get an estimated 12 inches of rain in the next two days! My girls are not happy!
Madder than a wet hen x13!
Hey Dad! Can you turn off the water!
Mom! I'm wet and not happy! (Mom tells them to hush and get back in the coop! Silly girls!)

The good news is, all the lessons we learned from our spring rainy session helped us build a better coop for the fall. The new coop is up on stilts so we aren't having to dig our way into the coop! All the runoff and mud is flowing under the coop and the garden paver wall around the edge not only keeps predators from digging in and an busy brahma from digging out, but it's diverting the water around the run! So the only water in the run is what falls in it and being on a hill its running out towards the bottom of the run!

Not bad with your modifications.

I tell people planning to build a coop to walk their property during and after a particularly harsh rainy spell.

Thanks! Yep we learned our lesson. We live halfway down a steep hill, it's heavily wooded and we usually are dealing with drought conditions. So we build a coop and BAM we have a record wet spring.....and realize we have a poorly designed and placed coop! That coop is now our baby/isolation coop. The new coop is on raised up floor, alot bigger so if they are "cooped up" for inclimate weather it's not as claustrophobic. The only reason their run is wet now is we haven't built the roof over it because it's been so dadblamed hot we couldn't work outside! We had this weekend circled to start working on the coop again....oh well......this fall we plan on covering the current run and building two additional runs. The additional runs will be covered in chicken wire and bird netting and we'll alternate between them, while they're in one we'll be reseeding or sodding the other. Again experience, they have tornup the grass in the run and reseeding is impossible because they eat the grass seeds!

Meanwhile, if this rain keeps up, we maybe adding a duck pond! Or giving the girls some swim fins!
