Hi there! My husband and I just got 3 hens from my
Mother. A mama and two of her babies. Australorps. We live in Scottsdale neighborhood currently. I grew up with chickens when I was young and am excited to have them now! We have two dogs and a cat, so introductions have been interesting. Glad to have this site to go to for advice and questions!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens, so glad you joined the flock. Honestly the best way to handle dog/cat introductions to poultry is NOT to let them meet at all, and keep them Apart. Dogs /cats + chickens - generally = dead chickens. Even if they are just "playing" with chickens - it's the chickens that end up mauled or dead. You never hear of a chicken killing a dog or cat.

Welcome, to BYC. A seemingly endless amount of information onsite.

The vast majority of dogs, and cats can be Chicken Friends, if properly & carefully introduced. Your future challenges may have more to do with addressing extreme summer heat. Again....Welcome!
