Permission for raising quail

I was wonder what is the law on raising quail in the city limit. If there is any, where do I check this? Do I need to get a permit? I just want to raise it for myself. I live in Mobile, Alabama.

Is 2'x2'x1' enough space for 5 quail. 1 male to 4 female. Will it be enough room to put a feeder and water in?

The best way to find out the laws for your area is to contact the state dept of fish and game for your state. That's enough space to keep that many coturnix, you couldn't keep bobwhites in that though. You might have to get creative on your feeders and waterers but my breeding cages are 2.5'x2'x9" and each has 6-8 quail in it. I just use an externally mounted trough feeder so they have to reach outside the cage for feed and cannot waste it, for water I use an auto watering system that is drilled into the side of a pipe so it just runs across the ceiling and they tap the dipper like an elaborate hamster waterer.
