White Polish Gender?

Yes he's a boy now I have seen your other pics. Wattles are much more visible with a side shot.

Polish do get picked on even the boys, there fancy crests attract unwanted attention I'm afraid.

This is what his poor head looks like

...and pine tar just makes his feathers ugly and stinky

Tie it up with tape. That wha t we do when they get picked. Our boys get picked all the time. Regardless of what they say, we 've never had a neurological problem.

Ok thanks!! I'll try that! I hate that everything you can put on it makes them look either dirty or purple

Blue kote will help though. And it gradually goes away. If you have some, use it. Theyll stop picking.

I asked my dad to pick up some while he is I town! I will use it asap! Thanks so much! I would really rather he be temporarily stained then injured

I got my first chickens in April. I ordered the "Meat and Eggs" selection. 25 birds. 15 meat and 10 layers. We actually got shipped 16 meat and 11 layers. One of the meat birds lost out to one of my dogs in a split second. We processed the rest in June. But in the layer group I ended up with 2 roosters! One a Black Copper Maran-absolutely gorgeous, and a white Polish roo. That poor polish! He has gotten so much grief! One day i went out to the run and was sitting in there feeding them some lettuce when I looked at Frenchie (the Polish) and he wasn't coming over and just looked weird(er) than normal. He turned his head and..........he now looked like a monk! They, someone, had pulled all the feathers from his crown and it was bleeding! I freaked. Called my husband, who raced home, and we used peroxide and antibac cream and fretted over the poor thing. We have a 10 x 4 x 4 pvc and hardware cloth tractor that we keep in the run. We would put him in that during the day and a dog crate in the coop at night. We would let him feed with the others (he tried to watch out for the other roo). Finally, as his feathers were half grown back in we thought he was getting along well with the others and let him stay out. Big mistake! Within an hour of being left in there those feathers were gone again. We have now had him in the tractor inside the run, except for sleeping, for weeks. The other rooster has to go. He has become extremely aggressive toward us now. But I think we will have to give Frenchie away as well. Winter is coming and the others can't stand those feathers either. ;(
