I have a RedStar at 13 weeks.

Found her in the corner, very low energy, possibly dehydrated.

Both eyes kept closed, even when handled - all other spook as I have 40 and they are not handled as pets.

Black dried 'crust' from 'ear' area.

The local weather dropped 15 degrees this week - kept in their coop with 300W heat bulbs, but still gets cool to 48 overnight.

Hydrating now. Brough into house (to warm). Eyes shut. Crusty. Slow breathing, Clean vent. Good feathers. No desire to eat/drink although MUST be hungry/thirsty.

Please help, suggest care/treatment/diagnosis.

Pictures as soon as phone/mobile site allow.

The ear hole is clear of any mucus or obstructions. Looks healthy.
There is a 1/2" cut above the ear, and blood 'scabbed' in the feathers.
Bird has poor balance- likeky due to vision, but can now open eyes since damp cloth cleaning.

I used (human) triple antibiotic on the cut.

I have (feline) liquid painkillers.
I have ammoxicillin tablets.

What more can I do to help my bird?

Maybe tried scrabbled eggs and see if she will eat that. On the eye i think your doing all you can if its an injury and not an illness then outside of what your doing i am not sure anything else can be done. But those medication might make her very tired, and i am not sure i sould use pain killer for her since you need her alert so she can eat.

YIKES!!!!

It appears this lil gal must have got pecked pretty good!

I can peel back the skin on the head, exposing bone/skull/tissue below. I applied antibiotic ointment to the would and fed 2.0mL water, and 1.5mL wet feed via syringe.

EDIT:
Time will tell. HOPEFULLY it heals well.

No pain killer used.

Until then, is it better to keep her isolated, or will that stress her out?!

The blue line is along the cut, which is like an eyelid. The skin folds back and exposes the skull.

Very gross.

Assuming it may be infected, I used Abtibiotic.

1. Should I keep the bird indoors?
2. Alone?
3. How much force feeding should I do?
4. How much water should I give?

Keep her isolated with that bad of an injury. If they peck her skull when exposed they can do brain damage if thats wasnt already done. Plus you could end up with a others trying to eat her exposed flesh and cause even more issues. I have a hen that got a nasty wound on her neck but the others dont mess with it because it doesnt have blood on it and its covered with feathers. But chickens can be attracted to red so that could be a problem i would say use blue..what that ointment called anyways it makes the wound blue instead of red with a mild injury i would use that in this case i say she need to be in a cage you can keep her in the cage in the coop so she still part of the flock but cant get attacked by the others as she heal.
