Limping Chicken

Hi All

Wondered if anyone could help.

My first home reared from an egg chicken 'Irene' who is about 7 years old has a problem.

She is curling a toe under her foot which is making it difficult for her to walk.

She is overweight, loves her food, never been friendly but always inquisitive.

Can anyone help with a diagnosis, vitamins or ideas on her problem.

Otherwise, she is eating, bossing the others, and drinking fine.

Thanks

regards

Welcome to BYC. You say she is 7 years old (not 7 months old?) Is just 1 toe curled, and not all 3 of the front toes? Usually curled toes can be a sign of a riboflavin deficiency or sometimes, Mareks disease, but if she is 7, she may have suffered an injury or it is something neurological, such as a stroke. Have you added any new birds to your flock in the last month or so, that may have been a non-symptomatic carrier of Mareks disease? I would start some poultry vitamins that contain riboflavin (vitamin B1.)

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me, yes seven years old,no new chickens.  So will look for some vitamins for her, she is quite a weight so she may have fallen over possibly.

Thanks again.
