My Personal Flock Gallery

She sure did. She's been cremated, and hopefully in a better place now.
Had an unlucky hawk attack on Saturday.

I wasn't home.
Now I'm no longer letting the chickens free-range by themselves.
I've never had a hawk problem 'till now.
Thank you for your kind words.
I'm sure she is, and is enjoying the company of many other animals.

Sadly, these things can happen to anyone's flock, but it never gets easier. Those are our beloved pets whom we love with all our hearts, and when I finally lose one, I just know I will be heartbroken.

It's a good idea to protect your birds by disallowing unsupervised free-ranging. We actually went that route when a beagle from up the road trespassed on our property, nearly killing all our birds. Thankfully, I happened to step outside right when it happened, so nobody was injured or found dead. After that, we quit letting the girls outside their enclosure except when we could be with them.

My old hen is molting very badly what do I do
Perhaps you could provide her with feed that is high in protein, like Purina Feather Fixer? Or, another thing you could do if you're worried about her in the meantime before she regrows those feathers, is to get on Etsy.com and order some chicken sweaters. Not only do they serve the practical purpose of keeping your girl warm, but there's also an added bonus of incredible cuteness!

I hope you find a solution that works, @chicks are life !
