so we have been battling this issue for a few months now..   flock consists of 4 older comets (2 yr) and 7 other mutts <1 yr.........we have been getting 2-3 eggs per day layed.....but always just shells by the time we go to collect......so frustrating......  We feed a local farmers non-GMO fresh ground 17% layer mix.....we provide a constant supply of oyster shell for calcium....and still same results......the other day i witnessed 3 of my 4 comets in eating the eggs......have tried the golf ball, no success.....  We are not the type to get the dumpling pot ready.....these birds are part of our family,  but would like them to contribute......   any ideas

Egg eating, especially an entrenched habit such as you are dealing with, is one of those things that is very hard to break - since culling is not an option you are open to your next best bet would be roll-away/roll-out nests which remove the egg from the bird's access area.

Where are we going, and why are we in this hand basket?

I have thought of this idea and think it would work....i have not seen any plans or anything but feel that i could probably figure it out....just not sure how to provide a comfortable nest box an still get the egg to roll to safety zone...could privacy be an issue??? And yes, new here and thank you gor the welcome
