Hi! My husband & I are new to chickens, but we got 3 chicks a couple weeks ago. They are supposed to be a Barred Rock, a Speckled Sussex & a Buff Orpington. I'm hoping they're all girls, as we cannot have roosters in the city. The chicks are 3 weeks old, so it may be too young to determine for sure, but I'm crossing my fingers. I was also curious because the one that's supposed to be a Buff Orpington seems to be too brown. I'm wondering if maybe it's an Americauna (is that right?)

If anyone has a moment to check out a couple pictures, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Buff Orpington? This is the one I'm thinking might not be what we thought. It seems too dark brown to be a Buff Orpington, from what I've Googled. It's a very curious chick, and has always been the bravest of the trio. She comes up to me to be picked up now & is very interested in her surroundings.

The other 2 chicks. Both are hand tame but are more reserved than the other chick.

Again, if anyone has time to give their opinion on the sex of the chicks, & the breed of the "Buff" chick, I'd greatly appreciate it!

It is much too early to evaluate them. But, the dark one with pattern coming in on wings, is in no way a Buff orpington.

I thought she was getting too dark to be a Buff Orpington. Any idea what it might be then? The person I got the chicks from had ordered Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, Speckled Sussex, Ameracauna (spelling?), & a white bird, I don't remember the breed. Do you think the chick is one of these or is it possible that another breed ended up in the mix? I don't know anything about chickens so I don't know how accurate the sorting is at the hatchery. Thanks for the input!
