I don't know if this is the right forum but.. I've been reading up on sand bedding pros and cons. Dose anyone use or has used this type of litter/bedding? If so what do you think of it? I appreciate all the advice i can get!

Sand gives great drainage and is super easy to clean if you have at least 15cm laid down.

No problem, I use it and I haven't had a single problem with it!
I like it (mixed with PDZ) for brooders and poop boards, but would not use it on coop floor or in the run.
A lot can depend on how big your coop/run is and what your climate is.
Small areas in a dry climate..... great.
Large areas in humid climate...not so good, IMO.
The thing I found with the brooder use is that eventually it gets saturated with pulverized poop which is impossible to remove.
If that gets wet, it really stinks...plus then what do you do with it? It's heavy and not exactly 'compostable'.
I used the first batch for 2-3 groups of chicks, then scooped it all out and used it to fill holes in the yard near the road from an auto accident.
After the next batch of chicks I scooped it all out and used in on the poop boards in the coop.

well my coop is 6 ft by 12 ft and i live in Wisconsin which is pretty dry all round. I also just but in a window with a screen for ventilation.
Arizona is dry, Wisconsin is not.

I don't think you should use sand bedding, but I have never used it, so who am I to say. I personally think that since your coop is so big, you will have to use tons of sand and then have nowhere to put it. I have also heard that sand causes respiratory illnesses. I use pine chip bedding and it works great. It is compostable, good for plants, light weight, and when I have to clean the coop I can just sweep it all out. Even though people use sand, they have to eventually do a deep clean and clean it all out (sand and all, not just scooping out the poop), I have no idea where they put all the excess sand. Assuming chickenpatch is correct and 15cm is about the right amount, than you will have tons of sand and nowhere to put it. I guess you can throw it away, but I would say wood shavings are more ecological.

Okay so you wouldn't recommend sand bedding for my state? I've researched it and it seems like it could be a good bedding choice. But idk it just seems like it would be easier to keep clean especially in the winter since they wont be outside very much.
