Thanksgiving Day Hatch, anyone?

Yes, just because a chick pips the shell doesn't mean they are ready to come out. They often pip and sit there making little progress. As kimbpara said, they still have to absorb the yolk and rest a lot.

It is hard to be patient but... hey, you do what you have to for the sake of the little ones!

On my last hatch, I helped one out that wasn't coming very fast. It ended up being deformed and would not have hatched on its own. I helped it out and ended up having to put it down. It was so sad

I should have left it alone, as it was not going to live.

I am starting to believe that the hovabators do cause early hatches.

I had four hatch today in the span of about twelve hours; none of which were pipped last night. I have five more pips. On an earlier hatch last week all 5 of the chicks hatched two days early.

They have all been healthy so far, so it's not a big deal...but I guess I got what I wished for because I don't think there will be any left to hatch on Thanksgiving.

I have 4 button quail hatched so far, with lots more pips!! I got 50 eggs total, 2 were broken after they got here (they are soooo hard to get out of the carton!) But I still have 44 eggs to go!!

Nothing going on with my chicken eggs, but I would honestly be surprised. There are only 2 that look like they are still developing, and they look like they are behind...

This is my 3rd hatch. 1st one hatched 2 days early, 2nd hatched right on time...I just moved the 3rd hatch to the hatcher last night, so we'll see what this does. Do you think your temp could have been a little higher than 99.5? On my early hatch, the temp ran steady at 100.5. Maybe check the thermometer? But, on the bright side...healthy chicks and 2 days less of a wait!!

Up to 10 buttons, with more pipping!!

Still nothing with the chickens, I tossed a lot of eggs last night, not sure what went wrong. It doesn't look good for this hatch or the next one.

The oldest one was about 6 days. I have a pc fan in my bator so I can set quail and chickens at the same time, and I always get early hatches. I lowered the temps a little, and I think that's the problem. The temp reads '99', which is between 99&100, since my thermometer doesn't have a decimal number on it. I think I'm gonna bump it back to 100 so I don't lose the buttons in there as well, if I haven't already.
