We bought a house a yr ago in sw ohio. It took us a year to find a house that fit out budget but also would allow chickens and goats. Well after 2 years of wanting chickens we finally have some!!

we were going to wait until spring and build the coop over winter but we found a good deal on a coop the size we wanted that came with chickens! No eggs yet but once they get settled in I'm going to check to see if they're still laying.

I've only had them a week but I'm already addicted and want more! We have 7 various breed hens. They got a bit of free range time last night and went back in the coop and tucked themselves in. They really enjoy the neighbors pine trees lol

such good little hens. What a nice start for you - chicken addiction comes with the territory. Resistance is futile . Welcome to Backyard chickens

How nice you were finally able to get chickens! Next up, goats, right?

If you'd like to chat with other members in OH, you can find them here:

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your new flock!

I think I've been a member for 2 years now but haven't posted. Just stop in and read stuff here and there.

Goats are going to be a bigger investment. I can't wait for them too. I just want to build them a little goat jungle gym and watch them play on it. :)

The husband is also thinking about mini cows but they are so expensive!

What breeds of chickens do you own?

It looks to me as though the 3 reddish colored ones by the waterer are Red Sex Links. The black one may be a Black Australorp. Not sure about the dark red & black one with her back turned. Those are my guesses anyway!
