9 weeks old buff orpington - pullet?

update: crowing! mystery solved. thank you all for your time.

I will keep him anyway.

I thought that comb and wattles looked awful large on a 9 week old Orpington but I'm sorry for your sake that he turned out to be a cockerel.( I am glad however that you are keeping him and don't have to try and re-home him.)

I want to create EEs. was thinking to use araucana cockerel with different breeds. now I will use this beautiful guy with 2 araucana girls. and my araucana boy will get 1 araucana girl and 1 NN who just laid a purple egg - I am after grey eggs in this case. a bit of fantasy and all the problems solved.

anyway he is a very strange orpington. I am not familiar with the breed but have never seen orpington like that, lol.

If you cross him with true Araucana hens (which are rare and lay only blue eggs), then all of the offspring will be Easter Eggers. However, if your Araucanas are actually Easter Eggers (EEs are frequently and incorrectly marketed by hatcheries as either Araucanas or Ameraucanas), then whether or not the offspring will be EEs and lay colored eggs depends on whether or not your EE hens pass their blue egg gene or their brown egg gene to the offspring. You have a 50/50 chance of getting EE offspring.

this is my araucana. another one looks the same but younger. they don't lay yet but the eggs I saw at the breeder are strange colour, neither blue nor green. and they were pale. those eggs were laid by older hens.
