Hi guys
You have all be so nice to me as I have been trying to nurse my wee old sick Aggy.
Got a bit of a shock this morning when I opened up the coop.

Isobel my head girl did not come out with the others and for an instant I had the thought did I leave her out last night?
I opened up the back of the coop and there she was dead. It looks like she died in the early hours of the morning so she would have been asleep.

Isobella is the last of the 6 hens I got way back in 2009. She was at least a year old then as the fellow I got the hens from had given them to his daughter the previous year. She couldn;t keep them and he didn;t want to put these with his ordinary PRs.
So DH got them for me to distract me from my cancer scare at the time. Now the original 6 are gone and only Bettey remains who is the last of the chicks from the group. She is Isobellas natural daughter but the last of the marathon brood Bertha did a few years back. I am really upset by this sudden loss. Yesterday she was playing in the yard with the other girls and getting treats and sunning herself on the patio. There was no sighn of anything wrong. Her comb was a little whiter than usual but it always is this time of year as she goes off the lay. I can;t believe she has left us so quickly. My beautiful shy girl who ended up lead hen by defult! With Aggy very sick I will be down to only 4 Hens soon. I don;t think Betty will last the Winter as she always gets sick with respiritory infections and she is not young anymore.

The weird thing is tomorrow I am for the hospital for scans on my neck to check the area I had to have a lump removed that they thought was Lymphatic cancer back in 2009 when I got the girls - now I am back to have a review and CT scan. And all my 6 original girls are gone. This is a pic of Isobella and Betty. Betty is the little one at the front. She never grew! Isobella was always very protective of her. Even last night she was a darling and was grooming poor wee Aggy! I am shocked she is gone and I thought Aggys would go first.

I got the scan and I do have another lump as they thought but it is all ok because it is just a stone in my salivery gland! - lol they think it will pass on its own so no big worries!

I do miss Issy I never saw it comming and now the dynamics of the flock are all shot up because the lead hen is gone! - Darn it always happens when your not expecting it! She was very old though! Thanks for the kind thoughts.
