Using mulch in the coop

Ok, I am new to chickens.I get my chickens this weekend. Someone mentioned that I could use mulch inside the coop. The mulch would be free fom the city. Is this okay to use? I saw other posts about mulch but it was people using their own. The coop is in the barn on a cement floor. Any help and advice would be great! Also one of my concerns is that it has rained here today and the mulch would most likely be wet this weekend if I put it in the coop.

Chickens are pretty forgiving. Mine love to scrounge around in wet mulch. Wet mulch all the time in your coop can cause mold and other problems. I'd give it a try as long as you can dry the mulch for inside the coop.
 
So maybe I could start with something else. Pick up some mulch and when it dries out add it to the coop?
 
You could...If you live where there is humidity, wet mulch in a coop would nor be best practice. f you'll tell more about your climate and weather it would be helpful. Sand or pine shavings seem to be the most popular for inside a coop, depending on climate and design.
 
I live in Wisconsin. So right now it's not really humid. But I suppose in summer time this could be an issue
 
It's been in the 50's during the day lately. And definitely try not humid. So during the summer as long as it is dry do you think it would be ok? Maybe I could do mulch and pine bedding?

The coop is built in a portion of a barn. So it is pretty well ventilated I would say.
 
We had access to free mulch a couple of years ago and we used as our starter bedding adding hay and shaving on top as needed, it didn't seem to bother anyone and it was a nice filler.
