No they definitely don't have yellow legs, I wasn't even aware that they should that's interesting to know
yeah the big ones at least two weeks older from what I gathered, so up until recently I just assumed it was larger because of age/sex but then it got all of it's feathers and started to look confusingly feminine pretty haha
so I was questioning if it was actually bantam or standard, would make it easy decision to choose which roo to keep if it did turn out to be a boy though as I'm tracking down a few more bantam hens to add, but you're giving me hope
that it's all maybe gonna work out and we just gonna end up with a mixed flock of bitsers
that's ok as long as they are healthy and happy, the main reason I love having chickens is for pest control as I don't use any and get HEAPS of bugs and weeds, my daughter loves to cuddle them and eat their eggs so she is really happy as we managed to raise these SO friendly they fly onto our lap, so far haha Hope they stay super tame? We used to have old rescue hens that weren't overly friendly they would run away and the large size made it hard for her to catch and hold themwhich discouraged her, they were on their last legs, I think we got one egg between 5 of them every 3 days
but they did a great job at gardening! Still a shame that these are not pure as you buy what you think they actually are
these were not cheap they were a bit ridiculous in price, I found it impossible to find any bantams around my area though and I ended up opting for chicks because of that reason lol what an adventure! I want to get definate hens next as we had these in the bath tub and then in a dog crate in the laundry and my little house looks like a barn it was a big job what do they call it shoe string budget? first time experience and I'm done for at least until I forget how much mess they have made
but we are almost there! And then I started to freak out thinking it was all for two roos
we are so in love with both of them now though having them running around the house has definitely bonded us all a lot! What is the go with keeping a standard size Hen with bantams would it likely be ok? I'm fairly sure I know that if it's a standard rooster then it wont work out, I have a good friend who has a farm keeps random chickens and would be happy to take any that didn't end up working out for whatever reason so they will be ok either way I just want to be prepared and think out our options. I also read that snuggly, tame roosters can become quite aggressive when they mature so that's another concern with my daughter? we had a big black rooster once that wouldn't let anyone touch him for his life but he was eventually tame enough to come only for food and would still freak out if you moved and he was safe, but he was also rescued from the chopping block and not a snuggled pet so he was scared of people.. Gosh he was adorable, he found his fate protecting the girls which was pretty sad, I really do like the idea of having a rooster just for that purpose coz unfortunately even our safest of yards isn't bullet proof and we got neighbours cats, foxes and Eagles lurking (it's extremely hard for anything that doesn't fly to get in now as my yards like a 2 1/2mr high, colour bond, non diggable fenced fort, but at the moment I'm even concerned about crow sized birds with our little 'collumbian' as it's SO small, we are 100% supervising their free range, but that can't happen forever and I'd much rather them be free to the whole yard than cooped up all the time) I'm rambling
I love talking about my chickens sorry! Keeping on topic now, I'm definitely going to come back and update to see how this pans out, I'm happy to get some opinions and learn a bit more about what exactly we have got here, cross fingers for a girl and a boy!
