best absorbent material for a poop board??

Yeah sweet PDZ great BUT as suggested on here using Boot trays on top of that Hubby widened the poop bd last week as well as made the whole assembly for the older coop removable black plastic .$4.99 plus tax on the black boot trays at TSC. have 4 of them on that poop bd. just wish the tray wernt "curved" or scalloped....
heck I saw coffee tables9 thrift stores) a while back that would have wiorked great just would have to have added uprights to hold a roost... Hubby used 4 by 4s for the legssideways(for stability) of the portable moveable combo poop bd and roost. cause I didnt want their heads or body touching any walls
wish I took some pics last afternoon when i had it out. it is heavy though. also wished I would have poly(water based poly) the pine bords on the poop bd. used 1 by 6 two of them and a 1 by 12 or 1 by 14.too. with psc of 1 by 1 cedar edge to contain the PDZ... the 14 incher was in our previous home and was a new shelf board in my sewing room so it was polyed. The reason didnt poly the 2 added pcs of 1by 6s cause was in a hurry to get the Grown flock of 6 out of those2 cr-- --y constructed tiny tiny TSC chicken "houses"...

Gosh, a flipped up coffee table would sure work! And hang on to those "cr---y" TSC chicken houses. Great for broodies, or sick or injured chicks, or a time out for a misbehaving bird! But I'm sure you already knew that. I know, get back in the corner, Blooie!

I have a "ladder" type roost with two shallow masonry mixing tubs underneath. The whole roost hinges up and I can hook it to the ceiling so I can get to the tubs and it makes it easy to clean with it out of the way. The tubs work well and are easy to sift (plus you can drag them outside to wash occasionally), but I had looked at those TSC boot trays. Lower profile and probably lighter. Does the curve in them make it harder to scoop? But then again, they might be easier to move around. Hmmm...something to think about

I just usually carry the boot poo trays out and scrape them and carry poo down into the poo compost on other side of property ...then wash . keep putty knife and handled brush in various places near coop and water barrel....i use those old kitchen dish brushes.. when the one I use in the kitchen sink gets shabby looking . that brush goes to outdoor scrubbing stuff. I also like the round auto detail brushes . it gets into the ridges of the poo boot trays.
I keep old yard sale used mailboxes outside the coops to store stuff in... those are the regular sizd mailboxes.. Been trying to find some used larger mailboxes....
Now if I could find putty knives I have lost.... I must have had a dozen around here. I even tied a neon looking plastic tape to the handles.. so I can spot them easier.. LOL

Nest boxes
In my nest boxes I fold a feed bag to fit (nest boxes are 1 ft³). When a bag gets soiled; fold a new one; pop out the soiled; pop in the new. Feed bags are a nylon mesh bag frozen poop just peels off in below freezing temperatures and just flakes off in summer when left out in the sun to bake and dry.



POOP BOARDS are the "BEST" addition yet. Handles well over ½ of the poop in my set up keeps ammonia smell in check 3½" below roost excellent for catching eggs laid through the night (roost are in cups for easier removal and cleaning). I recently friction fit a piece of vinyl flooring over my poop board.it makes clean up even easier; Pop out; Scrap; Hose; Pop in no sand or debris just the poop.

I started brain storming and maybe if I put feed bags under my pop boards that might make clean up even faster and easier. Held in place with those paper bulldog clip affairs.

I realize this is a coop page, but, I'm hoping someone can help with a brooder... I've got two babies 10 days old, hatched from eggs from a barn about to be razed. I have a fairly drafty house in Maine, so chilly! I'm interested in correct temps, and nesting materials. I have access to Rubbermaid bins, heat lamps, straw, pine shavings and such... ( I raise ducks) also when/how to start transitioning from the formula to seed/water. So basically all newbie questions.
I would do searches, but only Internet access is on data from my phone... No YouTube access for videos. (Think dial up, just slower!) any info appreciated. Thank you.
These are wild pigeons, parents were blue, at least the ones I saw...
