for the past 3 weeks I've gotten no more than 3 eggs a day from 8 laying hens (6 SS, 2 Bo). They're 1 &1/2 and 1/2 year old. Is this normal??? A couple are molting very lightly, nothing severe. They fed get layer feed.
Also, my 6 female Pekin Ducks (7 months) aren't laying either. Everyone gets food, free range all day, and clean water.
I locked he hens up for 2 days, and still no eggs, so I don't think they're hiding them. I've got the ducks in confinement currently, but no eggs.

Even if they don't appear to be molting significantly, they are still going through the same molt as any other hen. They're just not blowing feathers like some hens do. They should return to lay once they're finished.

Some ducks may not lay until 8 or even 9 months. As I recall, Pekins are also seasonal layers.

Well, you're doing better than I am! I've got a lot more that 8 hens and haven't seen an egg in weeks! Everyone's molting. My poor Pekin hens are leaving piles of feathers everywhere and everyone's super cranky.

Enjoy those eggs, at least you're getting some! I'll have to buy eggs the next time I go grocery shopping :hit

Ok I feel slightly better and less aggravated at my hens now. :p
Haven't bought eggs from a store in forever. That's a dreadful thought.

Hopefully mine and yours will resume laying soon. :D
