I have recently inherited a lone peacock that we believe to be about 2/3 years old. Everything has been fine with him for the six months we've had him but the last few days he has been off his food, not as responsive to us, his neck feathers have been fluffed up and this morning his poo was yellow. Two days ago we also saw him 'bashing' his beak on the ground from side to side, although this hasn't happened again.
He is a free-range peacock and we have recently been having extensive work done on the house. The day before these symptoms started the builders erected two large scaffolds on our house, near to his roosting tree, and they also had a very large digger/lifter thing which he apparently had a very near miss with. The digger wasn't here yesterday and there is no work going on today and he seems a little better - still not eating but more responsive.
Do you think it could just be stress at all the disruption? Or is it something more serious? We are complete beginners with peafowl so any advice/ideas you have would be great.
