Nesting 24/7 for over a week?

I have a 6 month old buff Orpington that has been sitting in the nesting box for over a week, why is she doing this? She was a runt out of the 9 chicks, but she finally layed a very tiny egg a week ago and nothing since then. I have taken her out and she is usually back in the nesting bow within about 20 minutes. Is she sick, or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you may have a broody hen! That means your hens wants to sit on eggs and hatch them. You could break from her broodiness or you could hatch eggs (and have chicks!:jumpy). Here are some articles on the subject: Letting Broody Hens Hatch & Raise ChicksBroody HensEncouraging or Discouraging Broodiness.

Thank you for the advice and yes, she sounds like a broody hen!
I knew someone with more experience would be able to help answer my question, as this is all new to me! I'm enjoying being a chicken farm girl though! : )
