Which Feed?

Thread Starter

I buy organic feed and the company I purchase from has just added varieties. Which is best between: soy-free (starting with peas, corn, oats, wheat, etc) or soy and corn-free (staring with peas, oats, wheat, and barley, etc)?

Why soy and/or corn free?
Wouldn't hens enjoy this stuff in the food?

As soon as mine get old enough I will be using soy and corn free. Right now I am using soy free. Only reason for going corn free also is cause I know I don't process it when I eat it and neither does my dog so I'm not going to give it to my birds.

Chickens don't digest corn and soy?

No idea, but if people eat it it comes out whole. Maybe chickens process it different.

Humans lack a gizzard full of stones used to grind hard foods such as corn and other whole seeds/grains.

Where are we going, and why are we in this hand basket?

Understanding the systems of a species and how they differ from the systems of other species can go a long way in helping to understand that what is right for one is not right for another.
