Hi everyone. I have a chicken that I cannot figure out if its a rooster or Hen. It is 4 months old. The chicken behind it in the picture is a Barred Rock of the same age. We know he is a rooster because he is crowing and his comb is more pronounced.

Any help would be appreciated. We've also done the hang them upside down trick and it seems to be hit and miss.

A clear side profile photo of the bird will be needed to show the characteristics that we need to see to give you a firm gender ID. How long has the bird had such pronounced and colorful comb/wattles?

I am going to guess cockerel, but a profile shot would provide a chance for a more accurate gender identification.

X2 on both of the above posts. Given the size and redness of its comb and wattles, I'm leaning toward cockerel. It could be a pullet not far off from laying but since Jersey Giants are slow to mature, I doubt it. However, a profile shot showing its saddle and tail feathers is needed for certain identification.

The comb and waddles have only just within the last week maybe. The Barred Rock in the back is also half Jersey Giant.
