The point I haven't noticed being discussed is the mother. (Apologies if it has crossed point in this thread, I admit, I skimmed lol)
Obviously acid corrodes metal. Basic chemistry there.
The benefit to ACV with the mother intact goes beyind ph if the water OR gut. The protein strands in the mother are what the Bacillus in the gut feed on; ie, food for the beneficial bacteria.
It's basically the same for chickens as it is for humans. If we can't even assimilate or absorb nutrients, (like needing magnesium to absorb calcium etc) then the chickens aren't using all the nutrients, and their immunity will start to suffer and will not be able to fight off pathogens.
Corroded waterer aside, after dilution in a gallon of water, 2 tbsp of ACV is not going to cause health concerns; in fact, better absorption leads to BETTER health.
The benefit of it keeping algae from growing is just a bonus
