Hello. I have a mixed rooster and he has a serious leg injury. I live in a mostly urban city where most veterinary help is for dogs, cats, and other animals that aren't live stock.
Almost 2 months ago we noticed he was limping. I didn't think anything at the time because he always goes and attacks things, starts limping, and then walk fine on his own. We knew something was wrong this time when he would spent most of his day laying down.
We took him to the vet and almost immediately after taking an oral antibiotic, he started to feel better. Unfortunately he attacked something again and his leg took a turn for the worse. We took him to the vet again but this time we were given antibiotics that needed to be injected into his leg. Instead of making him feel better, he got worse. His leg smells horrid and is practically all black. We have a feeling most of the tissue in that area is dead. We've been putting some ointments on his leg and keeping it wrapped around his leg, but what we're doing just isn't working.
We don't want to take him to the vet again, because we're not too happy that the injected antibiotics didn't work. My rooster is really sick. He's not eating. He can barely drink water. He can't even lay down properly by himself. He's real lethargic. He's always thirsty. He hasn't crowed for 3 days. We're trying to help him but what we're doing isn't working. I live in Southern California and I just want to take him to someone who can help us better.
Please if you know whats wrong or you can refer me to someone that can help him, I would really appreciate it.
(sorry this is so long.)
