Heater suggestions for 3" PVC waterer

For a few horizontal nipples the feed store is best, for five or so Amazon is good, for bigger lots, like ten use eBay. They all come from the same person, they live in Idaho and have the US distribution rights, so there is no difference in where you get them, at least in the US. Just do a search for horizontal nipple and it should come up for you. eBay is by far the cheapest per nipple, Amazon is a little more, they are most expensive at your local feed store.

Are there good instructions on installing the horizontal chicken nipples somewhere?

Newbie here, we have a small coop with just 4 birds. Now we have a top fill waterer from TSC in the coop, but it all leaks out wetting the bedding, and it is freezing right now since the temperatures cannot make up their mind here in Central PA. I could not get a large 5 gallon bucket in the coop very easily to still have room for the hens to move around etc. I could hang one outside in their run, but we are closing them in the coop at night. I am already thinking this little coop (supposedly for up to 8 hens) from TSC will be retired this summer when weather is nicer and we can build something a little bigger for the girls.

I'm a little confused by your question. I have a top fill pvc waterer in my coop.


It came with a vertical nipple. I added a horizontal nipple to it following the directions than came with them. Basically drill a 11/32 hole and screw it in place. From my experience the horizontal seems to drip and leak less. You will see cords leading to a bird bath deicer that keeps the water from freezing. I live in Colorado so we have freezing temps for a good part of the year. As far as putting something in your run again you can see that's where I have mine. My hens are only in the upper part of the coop at night to roost. They don't eat or drink during that time so I see no need to provide them with access to such in the coop. If your up at sunrise to let your ladies out of the coop giving them access to food and water in the run you should be fine.
