I have a hen who I purchased when she still had chicks by her side that she had raised. She is a broody hen and I am happy about that, lol. I just got my first roo, and I want to use my broody hen to raise chicks for me. I want to start immediately, so I have layin pullets in the spring. Is it too late in the year for her to be able to raise chicks? Will hens go broody in the fall/winter? Will it be too cold? Thanks :)

I've had hens sit in December/January with out any problems. Just make sure she has a dry, draft free place to sit. However most hens will only go broody in the spring/summer. It depends very much on the individual hen. For more on broody hens you may want to check out the broody hen thread > https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/496101/broody-hen-thread/10000#post_15956077 Lots of great info there!
