I lurked on this site for a few weeks before I jumped into the backyard chicken adventure. I really liked the idea of an automatic waterer so I built this PVC pipe onto a water container I had. How do I teach my young chickens to drink out of the nipple nozzles from my set up? I started my flock with six chicks and they are now big enough to reach it. When I try to show them, they just watch the water drop to the floor of the coop and attack where it landed. I've had to give them a water bowl until they figure it out.

It didn't seem to make a difference at first, but then I removed the water bowl and did what you said. I put the biggest ones beak up to the nipple and now they are all experts. Yay!

Chickens are such little copy cats...glad your girls figured out the waterer!
