One of our ladies (Buckeyes) finally started to lay. We are on day four, egg four. So excited! We ate the first two with a thankful blessing and prayer of thanks. It seems she likes to lay just after 7am.

Congratulations!! My girls are 15 weeks so they still have some maturing to do (even when I tell myself this I am still anxious to see when they will lay!) How old are your girls?

Chica ( Barred Rock)

Adaline (Barred Rock)

We got them may 3,2015.
A second and now a third is laying. We have 11 hens.
My daughter found this one yesterday. Any thoughts on why it's so small?

Not unusual with new layers to get a tiny one like that...it may or may not have a yolk.
Takes up to a month or so for things to smooth out and get 'regular'......can take weeks, or months, for egg size to get up to a 'small', 'medium or 'large' size/weight.
