This spring we acquired two ducks, hoping that at least one of them would end up being a female. As luck would have it, both ended up being drakes.
The are currently living with our chickens, but they are not very nice to them. They are territorial and chase them around the compound. We were thinking that peace could be restored to the compound if we move the ducks out to the yard and free range. We live in Northern NH, so we are worried about how they will do in the winter. These are big boys, and we don't think they will have trouble staying warm, but we want reassurance that they wont be struggling. Not only would the chickens be happier, but the ducks could also have a diet lower in calcium (they are eating layer crumbles right now).
What do you think? This is the shelter that they have...
