I have an Old English hen who is about 22-23 weeks old and has not started laying yet. However, for the past few days she has been spending most of her time alone in the coop on her roosting perch. I have never noticed this behavior from her before and this is my first time having chickens. Lately there has been a change in temperature ad winter is approaching but is not extremely cold out. Any suggestions as to what is happening?

There may be a few things causing this. First to mind is that she may be starting to molt. The shorter days are also a possible factor. You don't state if there are other chickens also in same coop, and how they act. Is she the only chicken you have.??? Also if you do have other chickens,,, what are the ages of them. WISHING YOU BEST. Maybe you don't have anything unusual to worry about.

I do have 4 other chickens that are the same age as her but they are usually outside most of the day doing what they would do regularly. We got all 5 of them together at the same time so its not like she's new to the flock or anything.
