There sure is a lot of energy around here. I'm impressed. We used to have many flavors of poultry years back when we lived in Michigan, but then we moved to Hawai`i and then here to southwest Ohio. After a long time without, we got some chicks this spring, built them a deluxe condo (from a kit - I'm not THAT handy) and now we have 4 spoiled rotten hens in the city.
They're just starting to lay, and they're awesome. They're a motley crew - one each Rhode Island Red (we think), a Silver Lace, an Americana, and a Light Brahma.
Yep, we've run afoul of the zoning officer so now we're working with the city manager to see if we can update the law. The last council vote was 3 to 2 to allow bees and prohibit chickens. I know, go figure. We just need to change one vote.
We have a meeting Friday.
Anyway, seems like a lot of fuss over 4 little hens in a completely fenced 10,000 sq. ft. yard and a top of the line coop.
We were just trying to be inconspicuous and raise some quality eggs. No need to discuss the evils of factory chicken eggs. A bonus is the personality of the little twerps. (They come running whenever they see us!)
So wish us luck!
Other hobbies? Yes, wife raises Siamese and Oriental Short Hair kittens, but very sparingly. I ride and repair bicycles and restore cast iron skillets/griddles.
