Hi everyone. I was thinking about building a small run that my button quail could go into. (Only in the day) But I have seen pictures of squirrels eating small birds and that has come to my concern
I have been bitten by a squirrel before and it was not pretty, and nor would it be a good way to go. (Long story on how I was bitten.) But I have a few questions..

Q1: How often do squirrels attack small birds + eggs?
Q2: How do I repel the squirrels and/or should I cull every one that comes near? (Using a blowgun but being careful not to hit the quail of course.)
Thanks!

You don't say where you live, but I've never had problems with attack squirrels! Of course, my 3 dogs and 3 cats keep them on their toes.

Build the run with 1/2" hardware wire so no squirrels can get through. I would not automatically remove the squirrels, most should leave the birds alone.

Ok! Good to know, thanks alot! Your statement reminds me though, the cats will be trying to prey on the quails, so I might install a low voltage electric fence just to keep cats, a possible daytime coon (Maybe, they might to the smell of prey), and hawks away, as well as a small dog that wants to lick every small thing to death. I plan on having 2 fences. One on the interior and of course the electrified fence so they won't get hurt! Also, I live in Southeast Texas.
