These are my latest Roo's, Big Fella, Mr Gimp, and Mr T, The are all feral, and have adopted me, my original 2 boys were stolen last year and have not yet found their way home, they had straight combs and golden manes (they were a good size and very sweet) the sister, black, (sex linked?)she produced and raised these 3 chicks; one grey speckled with yellow legs the other 2 mostly black, previously the black were hens like the mum, the grey speckled with yellow legs became my 2 Roos. this time all 3 Roos!
my query is, these 3 boys ALL have rose crowns? 2 look alike, one is golden. The only Roo's I see around have straight comb?what makes the difference? also the golden boy has small eye the twins have big round eye? they are all from the same clutch, I am sure there is Hawaii bantam in the mix? Big Fella is a little larger than the other 2. they are just starting to crow 2 out of the 3 . Any one have thoughts on this?

All mixed gamefowl/feral stock cockerels. Very handsome boys - I do envy you folks out in Hawaii. You've got lovely feral stock. I've always fancied the idea of trying to smuggle a few eggs home on a plane the next time I visit... if they're tough enough to survive and breed on their own, surely they'd be good to infuse into domestic stock.

Thanks, I was curious about the combs, the chicken around here have straight combs. I have not seen this 'rose' comb on any of the Roo's in this area and there are a good 100?or so, that hang out down the road. Interestingly, each 'community' has a 'look' to them, you can recognize which part of town it's likely they come from.
I guess every once in a while someone steps out? :) but these guys were born here at the house from mothers born here at the house. it is not usual for 'strangers' to come into our yard, once in a while but they dont stay around.
When I ring a bell my guys come for snacks hehehe, if I'm late they line up looking in my door. I get jumped on and mobbed when I share peanut butter sandwich or bananas, 2 favorites, I have to make them wait their turns, it is quite funny to watch. They will all wait their turn until 'Mr Trouble' eats, then its a free for all? he is not aggressive, he is the smaller of the 3 boys and the easiest spooked but the dynamic, when he joins in, changes things. They are so entertaining.
