So sorry :( hope the lone duckling does good though.

It's been sleeping under my shirt. It's so lonely. I asked everyone I know if anyone had any baby ducks. I posted on all the local chicken and livestock pages. No luck finding another duckling. Everyone has chickens no one has ducks. It's apparently going to be a pet. Lol.

They will do fine with chicks so they aren't alone, we took home a lone duckling in the spring with our chicks it looked so sad wouldn't eat or drink just laying there. Turned out to be a drake but he's still playing momma to the the hens and roosters. Funny to watch him try to get up to perch with them at night. hopefully we can find another swedish hen for him this next year

We put the top half of a big plastic dog house on a pallet with hay for him near their perch. so now he gets on top of it and hangs his head on the perch so he's with his babies.

Heres an update, we finally decided to call her sweatpea as she took after the BO hens temperment, still hasn't gone outside though as to harsh temps right now. the little roo that hatched with her has gone to it's new home already

She is very cute! I love her coloring

Thanks Momma is Buff Orpington and Rooster is Barred Rock, think she will definitely be more camoflauged for free ranging. She's got the sweet docile disposition of her mama. She will stand up a bit better for herself though.

That's cool, seems like a great cross!

Will see how it goes, I am impressed so far with her, the true test will come when she's introduced to the flock and starts free ranging with them. tight now she is being assertive enough that the pullet 3 weeks older doesn't pick on her without the little roo that hatched with her. But they are smart alecs, if they do not get some yogurt besides their feed every day they break out to try and get it themselves as they watched where it comes from lol.

(A few years from now) Breaking news, chickens escape and invade yogurt-making factory!
