Went out to change water and found chicken like this! Heard a sneezing bird last night but couldn't see who it was. She was standing eyes closed facing into the sun then she sneezed. She didn't fight being picked up or put into cage.

no swollen eyes, no gaping, no running eyes either.

She is/was in quarantine as she along with 2 roo silkies a game hen and 2 ducks where given to me by some city dwelling friends! 3weeks ago. No problems or signs of any till last night. My other 8 are a few days away from finishing a round of treatment with Duramycin-10 so I put some in for her but she didn't want it.

I have some Trylan 50 and penicillin for horses/goats should I hit her with some of that? the other flock was being treated as a whole.1 had CRD.

Could be a cold, seems the board is full of sneezing/snotty chickens as of late so maybe the weather has something to do with it.

I would definitely keep her warm. I won't advise on antibiotics but can you get her to eat a little scrambled egg?
 
If any in your other flock had CRD (mycoplasma) then they all could be carriers. Since she is not drinking the Duramycin, then I would give her Tylan 50 1 cc or ml twice a day by mouth, for 5 days.

The Bird died and is now being tested and those will not be back for a couple of days. The necropsy showed more than likely she dies from Salmonella.

Dr at the USDA lab liked the video, was surprised I had it. Guess it is good to document as much as I do!

So now we wait till Thursday or Friday to find out what to do and how to treat the rest of that small "flock" which has 2 Silky Roos, a Brown Red Modern Game Bird, and the 2 ducks. Which besides the RR that died I want to keep. Oh well, good learning experience.

What really surprises me the most is how FAST she went from running around sneezing to lethargic to dead in 24 hours.

I will post back what the report has to say on Thursday or Friday and pray that it is nothing more till then.

I am only posting to follow up when you get your results back! I don't have much more to add to the conversation other than I'm going through the same thing right now with mine except I was unable to get the bodies tested.
 
Ok so dodged a big bullet, or at least several small ones!!

So this is what the Vet/Dr has to say!!
Your last chicken had dramatic lesions. We isolated many bacterial and it was also positive for MG and IBV. One more test is pending. I also found a few round worms in the gut.
The chicken is negative for AI, Newcastle disease, ILT, Salmonella and lead.

So, glad its not AI!! now we have to decide if we want to go with all new birds

or live with the MG as it comes about. For being a nice guy and taking birds from city friends this is a heck of a way to get paid back. I should have listened to my gut instinks on taking them, no don't do it but I let my wife twist my arm!

Has anyone kept there MG positive birds and if so how often did it "flare" up? I know it all depends on stress just trying to get some kind of average to decide if I want to keep my ladies of about 19 months now. Roo is an *** but the ladies laid 7 days a week till last month.

I am wondering now if they were not carriers as I had 1 hatch/die out of 18 eggs that didn't do anything except rot. Also the yolks were very weak and broke when cracking for baking or cooking.

Had another one drop dead this morning shortly after the sun woke them up! Thinking of just taking the last two from my friends "gift" to me to the lab and build a new yard for the new birds.

can the ground be treated and can the yard be safely used for new clean birds? We had 2 inches of rain in 24 hours so the ground has been flushed reather well!

Sorry for the loss. With MG, the grounds and yard do not need to be disinfected. The bacteria only remain alive for 2-3 days after the chicken is gone. Routine cleaning of the premises, and disinfecting equipment would be all that is necessary.
