This is only my second time to incubate eggs and I'm thinking about using egg cartons for hatching. I would love to see what everyone prefers and hear any comments or suggestions you have. Also if you are a carton hatcher, please feel free to post pictures of how you cut your cartons down if at all.
Thanks to all!

I'm in general a carton hatcher. Unless I have a lot of eggs and can't physically fit all the eggs in with cartons then I will hatch them on their sides. I've had good results using both methods. There are pros and cons with cartons though. With cartons you can't see if you have wrong end pipper and they do take a bit more room up in the incubator. On the plus side your eggs are not knocked about by hatched chicks which makes for easy monitoring of pips in eggs. Also I find it makes clean up a little easier. I would certainly advise cartons for shipped eggs that have damaged or misshapen air sacs. Here are a few pics ~

Thank you so much for your reply and the fantastic photos. I am incubating shipped eggs and am leaning towards the cartons. I see that I do need to cut my cartons down more than what I have. Thanks again.

My best ever hatch was with eggs that were flat till day 14, then they went into cartons until hatch. I did it that way b/c the aircells were small, and my previous hatch was compromised by DIS chicks.

O wow, I didn't know about starting them flat. But then that's what happens in the nest so it makes since. Was your previous hatch in cartons at hatch time? Thank you for your reply.

I, personally, like to lay them down for hatch. It just seems more natural to me. Also, I think it would be easier to spot a mal-positioned pipper. Also, I'm just scared of trying something new when it's been working good for me so far. I do start them in cutdown individual cartons though. I can't post pics from the app on my mobile but I will post some in a little bit. This last hatch was shipped eggs and I stopped tilting them on day 16 and took them out of the cartons and laid them down on day 18.

Thank you. I'm just so torn as to which way to go. I'm only on day 5 so I'm jumping the gun a bit but I want to be prepared
