So.....my name is Martha, I live in Scotland and I currently own four pet chickens!, they are-Omlet(5), Bimbo(4), Mabel(probably about 1 and a half?..), and Betsy(same as Mabel).
We got Omlet when she was about a week old along with a light-sussex cockerel who we mistook for a girl, and named Yoko. Omlet is a black rock, and the story of her friendship with Bimbo (no-we're not being cruel with that name), is quite moving.
Bimbo is a fancy chicken, although I'm not sure what breed so maybe when I upload pics you guys could help?. We first got Bimbo along with another chicken called Cheeky (because we couldn't keep Yoko and we didn't want to leave Omlet alone), although Cheeky unfortunately passed away awhile ago when she got mareks disease . Cheeky was a common brown hen and very curious, and from the moment she arrived she took over and bossed everyone around like nobody's business. Bimbo was at the bottom of the pecking order, because back then she was a tiny little thing, but Omlet (who had made friends with Cheeky) took Bimbo under her wing, and would often be seen sitting in some corner with Bimbo. Now that Bimbo is bigger, Cheeky is dead and the two new chickens are wandering about the place, Bimbo is top of the pecking order and looks after Omlet, as she is now older and not as capable of defending herself.
Mabel and Betsy are the two new chickens, Mabel is a browny-reddish colour and Betsy is white. They are very young, and often make me laugh as Mabel has a habit of pecking my feet and Betsy has a habit of strolling up to me and then running away.
(that picture by the way-is just like Betsy when she freaks out!)
Anyway guys, I hope we can all get to know each other's hens, and I hope you enjoy reading about my tiny flock as I enjoy reading about your birdies!
