She came in a group from TSC. Her nest mates were Black Australorps and Red Stars. She has a beautiful personality.

She appears to be a Pioneer (they are also marketed by some hatcheries under the label, Dixie Rainbow).
I agree - Michael really knows chickens
Mixed breed --it could be a "Pioneer"--I don't keep track of mixes hatcheries do. I'm a believer in keeping purebreds.

Thank you Michael. Wasn't sure she is quite a bit larger than the Red Stars.
You're welcome. Pioneers (Dixie Rainbows) are meat birds (which is why she is larger) bred to develop a little more slowly than Cornish cross but without the health problems.

It definitely appears to be a Pioneer Chicken hen, however the red in it does seem to be a bit lighter than usual. There's a chance this is a cross. It does not, however, appear to be a Red Star. They typically have more white in them. The reality is there are so many breeds that could cross with i.e. Rhode Island Reds that can give this look. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a RIR / Columbian mix, for example. Again, hard to say but definitely enjoyed the challenge!
