Hello all! Just a quick question, how many nesting boxes do I need for my six chickens?

All of them lay daily however one has recently started laying in the run or around my garden. I have tried putting a fake egg in the box etc but nothing seems to work ! (I have 2 nesting boxes) thanks all

Two boxes should be good for 6 hens. Maybe keep them locked in the coop for a couple of days to get the one to lay in the boxes.

I have 4 boxes for my 12 hens and they all use the same 2 - the other 2 have never been touched. I've actually seen 2 hens in the same box, and I've had them lay outside before. I sometimes think the hens just do whatever strikes them at the moment.

I also have four nesting boxes for 10 hens (well, pullets, really). Only seven of the 10 have started laying so far, but only two of the boxes have ever been used. The other two boxes have never seen an egg, only a couple of golf balls :)

They definitely have their favorite boxes and have no problem sharing the two of them.
