4w old chicks avoiding their ecoglow and nestling in wood chips instead

What is up with these chicks? Why aren't they roosting if they are done with the ecoglow? They are sizeable chicks. I've got the ecoglow at its mid height. They have knocked over the ecoglow twice (last week), so it is possible they've outgrown this height.

Chick-ers, what say you?
 
They probably no longer require the heat at night. Avoiding the heat source is one of the best indications that chicks have feathered out.

It won't be long and they will be scoping out the highest places to roost at night. If you like, you can encourage them to roost by placing them on the perch. They are usually pretty quick to catch on.

However, if there are adults in the coop, they may be reluctant to use the perch if doing so will mean competing with the big chickens. Having plenty of perch space is essential for a peaceful coop.

Wonderful! No older chicks. I've jacked the ecoglow to the higher level. I'll try scooping them up high tonight!
 
Not sure how old and what type of chicks you are raising, also I do not see your location. I think they would still like to have the 'safety' of the ecoglow over head, if nothing else. Remember they like to snuggle under there and the heat transfer is from touching the back of the bird, not radiant. I would leave it in.
