Can I expect these girls will hold out until spring? I have 1 bantam Cochin, 2 super blue egg layers (ameraucana x leghorn), 1 crested cream legbar that were hatched in early to mid April. One has been squatting for weeks and has a super red comb (sbeg), and my crested cream legbar is red too...but no eggs. We have a 1 year old Cochin Mix that is laying. They get organic layer feed, have full access to water in their run until I let them out to free range at about 3pm (food and water comes out with them). They get meal worms as treats once a day. We are getting about 11 hours of daylight at this point. Their pelvic points are 3-4 fingers apart and have been for 3-4 weeks.

This was a month ago, and the comb has been super red for 3 weeks now.

With all that EXCELLENT TREATMENT they are getting, maybe they think they don't need to work.???

The only thing that comes to my mind is the fact that the daylight is diminishing in length. My girls sloooooooowed down production in the last 2 to 3 weeks. It could just be that those things coincided with your chickens.. Ready to start laying and environmental issue causing a slow down.

WISHING YOU BEST

I swear they look at the one laying hen and say "hey lady, we are NOT egg chickens. We are snuggle chickens. Don't give the giant pink soft human being any ideas."

my cream legbar was hatched april 27th and just laid her first egg yesterday - green, quite disappointing, really wanted blue. She was the last one of my 4 pullets to lay her first egg. I bet yours will lay soon!

here she is 2 days before her first egg

Hmmmm.....They must be laying with that pelvic spread...I'd keep them cooped 24/7 for a week.

Well, 3 weeks later...she finally laid (the crested cream legbar). At almost 32 weeks she laid some pretty OLIVE GREEN eggs the last 2 mornings. They aren't blue, but are still oh so pretty, and I am proud of her for bring the first to lay!
