glad you have joined us.

Here's the place to start to decide if having your own flock is right for you: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-pros-and-cons-of-raising-chickens

Also explore the other learning center articles, they will show you what you will need to brood, house and manage a flock.

Good luck in your decision. But IMO raising and caring for your own backyard flock is an eggciting and fun adventure, hope it works out for you.

Feel free to ask questions, we're here to help.

Hello, I am thinking about starting up the hobby of raising chickens any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to BYC! If you want a fun color egg laying hen go with the Ameracauna. I suggest though Black Australorp if you're wanting lots of eggs and want to use some chickens for meat. Black Australorp is my favorite breed of chicken.

Welcome!

So many different breeds! It's according if you want, a brown egg or a blue egg, a pretty bird that lays only three times a week, or a cute bird that lays every day. So many things!

Go to this link, read up, and enjoy checking out all of the sites. Know a breed you like? Go up to the search bar and search the breed, some threads will come up.
