The built in spell checker drives me nuts. It can't figure out my strange spellings of things, and it is sooo much slower then my browsers built in spell checker. I would prefer to use my browsers spell checker but it won't work with the forums spell checker on. So how do I turn it off?

You can use your built-in spell-checker, but it requires a little tweak here on BYC.
If you see a word with the squiggly red-line under it, just hold down the CTRL key and right click the word and your browser spell check should work fine.
