Hey ppl i bought a new brinsea octagon advance last week ... currently still in the set up stage ... how likely is it that i will need to recalibrate the temperature on the bator ... its telling me its set to 37.5 yet a thermometer i put in says 35.1 ... i have added a second thermometer but yet to see what temp i am getting on that !!

If it is working right the odds are zero. If it is not working right the odds are 100%. It’s a lot like your company going through a 10% layoff. The 10% isn’t all that important to you, it’s whether it’s 0% or 100% to you personally.

There is also the possibility the thermometer you are using is off. I know Brinsea are really good incubators but you still need to calibrate your thermometers so you know what you are really dealing with. Due to manufacturing tolerances it’s not that unusual for many thermometers to be off a little. These might help you figure out which of your thermometers to trust.

It’s a good question. Good luck!

Thanks ridgerunner ... the 2 thermometers i am using read within 0.2 degrees of each other .. they are totally different from each other ... i adjusted the calibration on the bator so that the bator sits on 37.5 and the thermometers are at 37.4 and 37.6 ... all within the preferred range ... i have done the school probe calibration before even though it gets tricky when using a digital thermometer with no probe
