I was not very successful with getting them to eat better, they're so stubborn. I would take their seed away and they would go days without eating, and refuse to eat vegetables and fruit. It's also hard because it spoils so quickly.

A few weeks ago I got three cockatiel mixes; one with orange essence, one for molting and conditioning, and one with fruit, nuts, and grass in it. I mixed those 3 together and I've been giving them that, and some multi drops in their water. I leave the same food in their cage for a couple of days and I only give them some more when the fruit and seed pieces are gone. They've actually been eating it, I'm surprised. Rosie is getting her feathers back and her wing looks better than it has ever been! Hopefully she gets them all back in a few more weeks. smile.png

Yes, hook bills are stubborn when it comes to changing their diet; it takes time and patience.

I am glad to hear that Rosie's wing is getting better.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping she'll get all of her feathers back! What do you feed your cockatiels? smile.png

I sold the last of my cockatiels last fall.  I mixed my own blend using parakeet seed, safflower, and a little sunflower. I also fed green, fruits, and boiled egg on a limited basis.  They liked cheerios and spray millet-pasta too. I tried to give as varied a diet as possible, never feeding any one item in quantities where the birds could "just eat their favorites".

That sounds yummy, spoiled birdies. You must of been really busy! It would probably be a lot easier to feed them that diet if they started out that way when they were young. My That cockatiels will eat cheerios or other crunchy things. My mom was holding the birds this morning while she was drinking coffee and talking on the phone, and Rosie stretched her head over the cup and took a sip of it! Her eyes got really big and she stretched her neck up then she shook her head. We were laughing really hard because it's so bizarre seeing a bird drink coffee! And she actually wanted more! We didn't let her though of coarse, I'm sure caffeine isn't good for them. Lol. big_smile.png
